VALENTINE’S DAY IS A TIME TO SHOW OUR LOVE

This year Valentine’s Day is this Tuesday. It is a day to embrace your spouse, girl/boy friends along with friends and family. It is a time to give thanks for the many kindness and caring of those whose take the time to make a difference in our lives.

The four letter word love can make the our lives seem to be worthwhile and sustain us when we are ill or troubled.

I have been most fortunate to be married to the love of my life my wife, Ella, for the past 36 years. The wedding service spoke about: “in sickness and in health , for better or worse, till death due us part.”

There were no bridesmaids, groomsmen and bouquets of orchids at our service. It was very simple ceremony. We had it all with both of holding hands as we walked down the aisle. Tears of joy flowed down our faces that we were most fortunate to have found a love-mate with whom we could spend the rest of our lives We have been blessed with good health along with times of illness that together we were able to enjoy and cope.

Our love enabled us to build our home, Shalom Acres, a home of peace and love based on the premise that each of us would give 51% to our marriage and our family. We wanted to share our good fortune with our two children , Sarah and Ari, along with a dog, Monty and our swans, Sugar and Spice. Funny how love makes us want to share and nourish the well being of others.

There is no financial rewards to be gained by expressing our love: a smile ,a hug or a kiss on the cheek suffices to say that our affections are appreciated. Some sad people are not able to show their love and mask their feelings not being able show their emotions.

Over the years we have seen our children marry and find loving spouses that have given us three granddaughters to whom we can continue to love and spoil. They sadly are not a quick drive away but we enjoy the telephone calls.

As usual I will not buy a Valentine’s day card for Ella. I like to take the time to compose my own words of love to my wife and say thank- you. A box of chocolates, flowers can not express my feelings. I wanted her to know that. I love her. If she would give me the chance I would fall in love with her and do it all over again.

Happy Valentine’s Day.
