THE STUDENTS HAVE SPOKEN! CHECK OUT THE CANADIAN UNIVERSITY REPORT

I just received an e mail from Dr Paul Davenport, President of the University of Western Ontario. He wanted to share some great news. “ For the seventh consecutive year, Western can claim to providing the best experience among Canada’s largest research-intensive universities, based on the results of the Globe and Mail’s university report.”

The survey reflects the opinion of 43,000 students from 55 Canadian universities who answered questions about their university experience.

Here is the scoop: Western ranking among Large universities (Enrollment over 22,000) scored 10 A’s : Most Student Satisfaction, Quality of Education, Quality of Teaching, Course availability/variety, Libraries Building and Facilities, Academic Reputation Student Residences, Campus atmosphere, Extra Curricular activities.

Western beat out overall the likes of prestigious McGill University, Universite Laval, University du Quebec & the University of Waterloo in the above areas.

The U. W. O. results show there are six B plus ratings. The Western students ranked the Food Services at the Spoke & Wave which serves hamburgers and the Tim Horton’s/ Subway franchises in the University Community a Center a dismal C plus.

Now that you have seen Western’s ranking it is important to compare. I was surprised to see that The University of Toronto - St George Campus received quite a few some C-scores in Class size, Ease of course
registration, & Career Preparation. The University of Waterloo did not have one ‘A’ rating from the students who completed the survey.

Among Small Universities ( Enrollment under 4,000) King’s University College (Edmonton) had twelve A/A plus ratings from their students.

Our high school students will soon have to fill in their Ontario University Application Center choices on line. It is very important that they have accurate information to help them choose the university/programs that will help them achieve a positive post secondary education. It is very hard to switch campuses after you begin your program.

As the statistics show you do not have to travel away from London to receive an excellent education. My advice to parents is to think global and look local in choosing university campuses. Please check out the web site: www.globecampus.ca using the Campus Navigator Tool
